Wingless Weekend” A Parade of Clowns!

Clowns galore led the District Wingless Weekend opening ceremonies on Friday evening, February 8, in Williamsburg.  It was a wonderful blend of color, honking horns, buzzing handshakes, squirting corsages, and animations!

District Directors (DD) Pat and Kathy Hasiak judged the evening’s talent contest.  They awarded prizes to the best Chapter Skit and best male and female clown costumes.  The kids had the best costumes!  Yes, three young girls and a small boy accompanied their parents to the festivities.

Saturday’s seminars led by Region N and District staffs wised-up the clowns with leadership seminars and motorcycle training seminars.  A newly formed District Color Guard opened Saturday evening’s Banquet.  And, a large 50-25-15-10 drawing bulged some pockets, while the DJ’s tunes filled the air.

At Sunday’s Business Meeting, Elsie and I reaffirmed Chapter Y’s desire to see the Rally In The Valley moved off of the Columbus Day Weekend because of its consistently bad weather.  DD Pat Hasiak explained that it is hard to move the date because of the other Districts’ events routinely scheduled on “their historical weekends.”  Additionally, the District staff wants to have the Monday of a three-day holiday weekend to unwind after such a consuming event.  Thus, while Pat will look at the issue again, it may be too hard to change.

We also suggested a pooling of Year Bars among the chapters, so that they could find missing Year Bars.  Pat suggested that chapters might agree to some common colors to eliminate the large inventories of special-order Year Bars.  Chapters expressed interest in his initiative.

Finally, chapter officers and staffs were reminded that the District Leadership Development Team would present the GWRRA Horizon’s Program in Lynchburg on March 14 and 15.  The program’s goal is to develop your leadership, teambuilding, and communications skills.  The program, materials, and Saturday lunch are free.  Rooms at the Lynchburg Ramada Inn are $65 per night plus tax, 1-434-847-7500.  Please email District Leadership Trainer, Pam Meador that you will attend, wingse@msn.com
